5 tools you really need in the garden
In short: 90% of gardening work is done with five tools. Start with these before you spend a fortune on unnecessary equipment.
5 tools that do 90% of the work
Before my first season, I bought a spade, hoe, fork, rake, dibber, pruning shears and several other things. I didn't use half of them even once.
1. Spade (forged, not pressed) — digging, turning soil, compost. Buy a good one once and you'll have it for 20 years.
2. Hoe or garden cultivator — weeding, loosening soil. The most frequently used tool in the season.
3. Watering can or hose with adjustable nozzle — depending on the scale of your garden.
4. Bypass secateurs — cutting shoots, branches, harvesting. Bypass (not anvil type) to start with.
5. Gardening gloves — underrated. Leather or rubber-coated, good quality.
What to buy later: Fork, rake, dibber.
Rule: 5 good quality tools > 20 plastic junk items.
