Seed viability test — 10 minutes that save the season

How to perform the test:

  1. Moist paper towel (lightly squeezed)
  2. 10 seeds on one half
  3. Fold the other half over the seeds
  4. Close in a plastic bag
  5. Warm place (~20–25°C) for 5–14 days
  6. Count how many germinated

    Interpretation:

    • 9–10/10 — sow normally
    • 7–8/10 — sow denser
    • 5–6/10 — sow twice as much
    • Below 5/10 — time for new seeds

      Seed viability:

    • Tomato, pepper, cucumber: 3–4 years
    • Carrot, parsley: 2–3 years
    • Onion, leek: 1–2 years
    • Pumpkin, zucchini: 4–5 years

      Storage: dry, cool, dark. Small jar in the refrigerator.
