Intensive cultivation — how to double yields in the same space

In short: Square foot method and succession planting — two ways to get the maximum from limited space. A well-planned 4 m² can be more productive than a poorly managed 20 m².
Intensive cultivation — how to double yields in the same space

Intensive cultivation — more from less space

Square Foot Gardening method:
Divide the bed into 30×30 cm squares. Each square has a different plant:

  • 1 square: 1 tomato or 1 broccoli
  • 1 square: 9 spinach or lettuce plants
  • 1 square: 16 radishes
  • 1 square: 4 parsley plants

Each square is managed independently — when you harvest, immediately sow the next crop.

    Succession planting:
Instead of sowing a whole packet of radishes at once — sow small amounts every 2–3 weeks. Fresh vegetables instead of one peak.

    Companion planting:
Plant slow-maturing crops (tomatoes, peppers) together with fast-maturing ones (lettuce, radish). When the small ones are harvested — the large ones take over the space.
