10 herbs worth having — in the garden or on the balcony
Pe scurt: Herbs are the most profitable plants in the garden. They take up little space, are ready quickly, don't require complicated cultivation and improve the taste of cooking throughout the entire season.
10 herbs worth having
The easiest — for everyone:
- Chives — perennial, indestructible, self-regenerating
- Mint — aggressive, plant in a container! But indestructible
- Thyme — drought-resistant, perennial in a good location
- Oregano — practically maintenance-free, spreads readily
- Sorrel — perennial, early in spring when nothing else is available
Slightly demanding, but worth the effort:
- Basil — requires warmth and sun, annual
- Dill — self-seeding, doesn't like transplanting
- Parsley — biennial, easy, overwinters
- Lovage — perennial, irreplaceable for soups
- Rosemary — perennial in a good location, requires drainage
Rule: Mediterranean herbs (rosemary, thyme, oregano) like: sun, dry and well-draining soil, infrequent watering. Central European herbs (parsley, dill, lovage): moister soil, tolerate light shade.
